Metropolitan College of Music

Regulations

Rules of Governance:

  1. The name of the College shall be ‘The President and Fellows of the Metropolitan College of Music, London’.
  2. The college shall be governed by a Council of not more than twelve (12) and not less than six (6) Councillors, appointed from amongst the Fellows of the College. Councillor shall normally serve for five years, with the possibility of no more than two (2) terms of renewal. Vacancies shall be filled by nomination to the existing Council by one or more members thereof. In the case of several nominations, an election shall be held amongst the Council.
  3. The President shall be elected by all Fellows, a simple majority of those voting being sufficient. He need not be a Fellow of the College, but if not, he shall be admitted a Fellow.
  4. One member of Council shall be designated the Registrar, and shall keep the Register of Fellows, with dates of election and admission, and their proposers. Together with the President, he shall sign the Fellowship diplomas.
  5. Nominations for Fellowship may be made by any Fellow of the College, or by an interested non-member but self-nomination shall automatically disqualify. However, interested parties who do not personally know any existing Fellows may forward a general enquiry to the Registrar who will proceed on such cases according to their individual merits. Election shall be by the Council, on a simple majority. In the case of a tie, the President shall have a casting vote.
  6. Fellows are elected for life, but in the case of a Fellow being found guilty of behaviour which may bring the College into disrepute, his Fellowship may, at the discretion of Council, be revoked.
  7. There shall be no charge for admission or election to Fellowship.
  8. An annual meeting shall be held at a venue in London, at which Fellows elected over the past year shall be formally admitted. Fellows may be asked to contribute towards the costs.
  9. The form of the diploma, and the academic dress of Fellows, shall be determined from time to time by Council.
  10. A newsletter may be issued as Council sees fit.
