Metropolitan College of Music

Fellowship Criteria

These criteria are given as a general guide, but each application will be considered on its own merits. It is particularly stressed, that, while the guide-line age is stated as 30, younger candiates who feel they have satisfied the criteria in other respects are encouraged to apply.

  1. Applications for the award of Fellowship are made to the Registrar who will forward them to Council for consideration. Normally a decision will be made within one week of application.
  2. Candidates may be proposed by Fellows of at least one year's standing. For such proposals no further references are usually required. Council may, however, ask for references in such cases.
  3. Candidates who are not proposed by an existing Fellow must, at the time of initial application, provide written references (which may be e-mailed) in support of their application from two referees. These referees need not be existing Fellows but should be persons capable of attesting to the musical contribution of the candidate. Submission of such references implies the candidate's permission for Council to contact the referee(s) directly.
  4. As Fellowship is awarded in recognition of service to music, candidates under the age of 30 years are not normally accepted since they would not normally have acquired sufficient experience to qualify.
  5. A formal, examined qualification in music is not a prerequisite. However, a candidate without such a qualification would be expected to show evidence of a greater degree of practical contribution to the world of music than a formally qualified candidate.
  6. Candidates should submit a detailed CV to the Registrar in support of their application. The CV should note details and dates of any positions or memberships held. A brief explanation of how the scandidate feels that (s)he made a positive contribution should also be given.
  7. Council may require a candidate to provide information beyond what has been given in the original submission.
